Birgo's very own Cincinnati property manager, Hannah Bohmer, sat down to answer a slew of questions so you can get to know her better! In this blog, she details how she started her career in property management as well as her go-to coffee order on those busy work days. Continue reading to get to know Hannah!

1. Tell me a little bit about your background.

I have been working in property management since I was 16 years old. I got started with my mom as she began to purchase and flip houses to sell or to rent out. When I was 23 I branched out and worked in Clifton as an assistant property manager, I then changed jobs and became a property manager for HUD based housing in Mt. Auburn and Downtown Cincinnati. I joined Birgo in mid December and am so excited to be here and bring on 3 new properties!

I studied business at Lake Erie College in Northern Ohio before transferring to Northern Kentucky University. I played NCAA D2 soccer at Lake Erie and played on NKU's select team after transferring. I grew up in Northern Kentucky, but have lived in Ohio and spent some time living and working in Germany! I am currently 25 years old and I am the second oldest of 8 in a blended family. I am an avid Bengals, Reds, UK, and FC Cincinnati fan and always catch a game when I can! I am very excited to grow further into my career at Birgo and to get to know and work with my new residents in Cincinnati!

2. Which has been more valuable in your career, your education or your experience?

My experience has undoubtedly been the most valuable tool in my career. I would not be where I am without it!

3. What's the best thing about your job?

I am very excited to be able to make some big changes to the properties and help elevate the resident's current living situations. There is definitely a lot of work ahead, but we have all been working very hard to get everything organized and create a plan of action to deal with resident concerns and maintenance issues. I am very grateful to our resident's understanding and patience as I have taken on this new role and new properties!

4. What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?

The best career decision I have ever made was stepping away from my mother's business and stepping out on my own in the property management world. I found a deep love of this work and my knowledge and skill set has been ever expanding as I take on each new role.

5. What skills have you found vital to your job?

Being a good listener and being empathetic with resident issues. Most people just want to feel heard and know that their concerns are being taken seriously and that they will be addressed in a timely manner.

6. What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?

Keep a to do list and figure out what issues are a priority without letting problems fall under your radar.

7. Is there a quote that motivates you?

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

-Dylan Thomas

8. Who inspires you?

My mother.

9. Dream job (apart from working at Birgo!)?

Working as a translator and getting to travel internationally. But I have since discovered I am not great at learning new languages.

10. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be?

Scarlet

11. What’s your go-to coffee (or tea) order?

Toasted Vanilla Shaken Espresso with oat milk.

12. Winter or summer? The beach or the mountains?

Summer (but fall is my favorite). Beach.

13. What books or articles should I be reading?

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter.

14. What does a typical weekend look like in your household?

Sleeping in, spending time with friends and family, deep cleaning every Sunday!

15. What are some of your best or favorite personal achievements?

I am very proud of myself for succeeding in my goal to get a college scholarship to play soccer. It had always been my dream, but I am deeply saddened that that part of my life has come to an end, but I cherish it always.
